How should I balance Dom and Sub content?





I've been thinking about how to make H-content for the game since I'm finally at that step of the development, but I always get stuck planning and making mostly scenes where the Player/MC can dominate or rape NPCs, characters and enemies. At this point I don't know how I should handle content where the MC loses, is raped or tricked without going the old GOR (Game Over Rape) route.

I would like to know what people think about this, I'm still going to focus on content where the player initiates the action but I would like to have a balance of both dom and sub content for the game to make more interesting situations.

So, how would you handle this kind of thing? How should a RPG where you fight monster girls and humans while dealing with NPCs handle content where you're submisive without going for the "rape on loss" and "game over rape" way?

  1. alongside fighting, make rape/seduce/submit options with their own respective benefits and costs in battle? that's what I've seen in many games. I can't really think of a clean answer.

  2. Im personally not into sub content. I prefer dom, especially with a futa protagonist.

    Useually theres "submit".
    Basically "Ok, fuck me or whatever but please dont attack/kill me".
    It could be a action/button in a fight.
    An action to take like crouching and displaying the ass.
    Not fighting off a grapple.
    Submissive dialog "P..please just dont hurt me"

    1. Yeah me neither but I'd like to balance things, even if my preference is dom content and I'll probably end up with 70% dom stuff for the player some sub content might be good.

      Futa is just so easy to make full dom for the player, it's also fun to think of ways the player might abuse or rape characters in the game as a futa heh.

  3. So i'd like to think the whole point of a game is to make you do something to earn your content. If you could click a button (submit or self-takedown) and instantly lose to see your reward (the H-scene whatever it maybe S or M or whatever because people like seeing the act of sex [that's your demographic]) then you might as well just give them a folder of gifs with all the animations.
    So that the whole problem, how to deliver content in a way that doesn't break player immersion. Well since your using rpgmaker i'm guessing its not a platformer so player interactions isn't the same (zell's fobs is a nice way to deliver content, but it won't help here) obviously your going to have to make due with the turn based combat system since your using rpm and I don't think that you are going to heavily script the engine to add something new are you?
    honestly i fucking hate the rpgmaker battle system, it's a horrid piece of shit that does nothing but break immersion and waste time.
    what the fuck is mp, and hp supposed to be anyway, why the fuck are we limited by this shit anyway?
    idk, your pretty limited as to what you can do with the vinalla stuff, anyway, unless you try to go out of your way to find scrpits.
    Do you have any idea of a content deliver system yet?
    do ya know if you want to have a battle system in place?
    you could try and go for a more adventure game, puzzle style like ib and a couple other horror rpm games and do away with the battle system completely.
    thoughts, I offer much if i don't know if you have something in place or if you are still coming up with the game as we speak.

    1. You make very good points there. The immersion part is key because you can easily break it in a turn based game and RPG combat is turn based here, so I have to be very careful there.

      I understand your gripes about RPGM, I have them too everyday I work with this engine. I do have some plans to make things more customized but sometimes I wonder if it will matter in the end. The stigma of using RPGM these days is big enough for people to actually scoff at what I'm doing despite me overhauling almost everything, it's kind of depressing to be honest.

    2. Well it's not like I hate all rpgm stuff, I'm learning how to map and script to try make my own h-game! My gripe is all the english original(alot Japanese and a few Russian rpgm games to change alot with their games, I wonder why english people can't make good rpgm h-games?) vanilla stuff that people throw out as finished projects, with any different assets, with the same crummy nonsensical battle system... basically telling people that their gonna make a color picture and presenting a color-me-in template of bunny without anything.. sigh(Though there have been great non-h rpgm games out there, have you seen LISA it's really good) The only good english orignal rpgm h game that I can think of is logan's rise of the dark lord.
      But any way assuming that you are using battles as the way of content delivery i can shoot a few ideas if nothing is set in stone yet for you.
      1) you could try and make a parameter system. Imagine a triangle, on each end, there is say: consensual, sadistic, and masochistic(dominated). the goal of your battle is to fill one of these ends up before you enemy kills you, you can fill the ends up by using certain skills that require certain button combo that expire in certain amount of time(playtest for best results,) for example: up, down, right, right, left, up, down in 1.5 seconds, or what ever time you think is fair. The skills have different difficultly of strings, but the harder it is to input the string the more you fill up the meter to the desired point in the triangle. And by filling the end of what ever point, you get to see the desired scene consensual, sadistic, or masochistic, whatever you win as long as you get the sex scene. But you keep failing to enter inputs, the triangle doesn't fill up, and the enemy attacks you so you keep on losing stamina to keep on going, once you get knocked you out, that's it game over you don't get anything no sex scenes why would you be rewarded for failing to enter the inputs? You get sent back to the hub area because rats dragged your ass back or something(people really hate gameover screen this generation idk why, do just do a get sent back to hub and lose some money sort a deal.) so that's a work around the gameover rape, immersion breaking. The input string is just an idea, you could have is just for the sadistic portion, while the consensual portion is something like a shin megami tensei talk screen, where you talk to you oppenents to convince them that they should have sex with you, by sweet talking, or bribing with certain items or, making a bet that you can take them out, idk what you'd put in the talk screen. And whatever minigame you want for the third portion of the triangle, to get the masochistic sex scene you bring up a screen and play tetris with the opponent you gotta get 3 tetrises before your opponent or its an insta-kill, whatever lol. But the problem there is going to be the shitload amount of scripting you'll have to do to implement these features to your new battle system thingee, that's why I was hesitating so say anything about scripting since ya seem to like the art aspect more. but yeah, implementation is a real bitch. you could make it a square or a pentagon adding more fetishes, but htat just means more assets and minigames that you have to implement, and you would never get anything done.

    3. 2)simpler i guess could just be a down sizing of the triangle to two bars, you know how you have a hp bar an mp bar? both you and your opponent has them instead of being hp and mp, make is submissive and dominating(I assume that those are the only two fetishes you have assets for, I like vanilla the best flavor, but only if its contrasted with a good background everloving sex in the middle of a battlefield of dead enemies is pretty lol) give the enemy two bars, that you have to fill to get whatever h scene you want. And you have one bar, your stamina, that depletes when you take an action or when the enemy hits you, so you have a certain limit to actions you can take to make the enemy horny enough to do you, in whatever way, or get done lol. Should be a tiny bit easier to implement, but will still require some scrpiting on your own.
      For these Ideas it might be easier to get rid of the damage formulas that or built in and just make everything a points. So rather than 100hp/sadistic things that you have to fill just going through some arcane fucking shit formula. make it like 10 points of sadisitics thingees. skill a raises it by 1 point, skill b raises it by 3 points etc, this make game balancing a fuckton easier to control without that fucking arcane damage formula to account for.
      But yeah, these ideas aren't really something you can do with the vanilla base rpgm.
      BUT.
      You are the best english original rpgm h-game dev that the english community is yet to see, is my gut feeling (and then you are just going to get buried strumpets, simbros, cloud meadows, and harem VX and whatever simulations and custom maid cg ontop of vanilla rpgm games that this community seems to have a hardon from... like the fate of all good games)
      So yeah don't let something like scripting get in the way making a great game, but whatever its just an idea.
      I'd just really like to see something great come out of this community , you go you!
      If nothing else, I can still help pitch ideas here and difficulty balance whatever system you make, hell if the game is still stuck in dev hell in half a year I might have to skill to script for you if want, but I'm sure all your fans want this project to succeed!!!(how many of us are there lol)

  4. Hmm. It's hard to think of anything. Doing submissive or rape content is slightly harder when it isn't tied to your character losing. And while I'd be fine with a ''rape on loss'' mechanic (huge fan of it), it's clear that you want to go for something else. I see someone already suggested battle options such as ''submit''. I suppose those could work. But I don't particularly find that to be too much different from losing. The only other thing I could think of at the moment would possibly be status ailments. Perhaps your character could get inflicted with something that would make them more submissive or easy to control or abuse. Like confusion or arousal, mind break, etc. But then that opens the question of how the rape would play out. Would it still be a loss in battle? Would it just deal a certain amount of damage? Would the battle be over but there would be some form of penalty? This is tough. When I think of submission and rape in battle the first thing that comes to mind is ''losing''. I find it hard to imagine it playing out any other way. Perhaps it could be an attack the enemy has. At which point I guess it would just deal damage. That's pretty much all I can think of right now. At least, when it comes to battle rape. In the case of NPCs, if you're even planning submissive content there, I suppose walking into certain areas, hypothetical ''dark alleys'' if you will, while under the influence of a status ailment or similar might cause some NPCs to jump your character. I must admit, I don't know much about your game yet, so I don't even know what elements you have planned for it. For example, I don't know if you're going to have different outfits. 'Cause those too could be used to entice certain NPCs into ''mischievous'' actions. At this point I'm just spitballing. Trying to help as much as I can. It would be very sad if you had to give up on the sub content because you weren't able to think of a nice way to implement it. While I heavily enjoy domination, I am also a big fan of submission. And I would certainly love to see our strong futa protagonist be put into some sticky non-consensual situations. Heh. Anyway, I doubt my rambling here helped much, if at all. But maybe it got your gears turning, so you might think of something way smarter. Or maybe you already have. This is a pretty old post.

    1. My main worry is that submission is handled as loss and domination as winning (Sometimes) in most games, but that makes it so the player is forced into the common loop of hentai games:

      Save- Find enemy - Lose - See scene - Load - Beat enemy - Repeat

      It's not to discourage save scumming (This is avoided by not forcing Game Over on loss or with automatic quick continue) but for players to not feel like they have to fight and lose to the same guy/girl over and over to see everything just to check if the other scenes are good or not. The game is no CoC, there's no character creation but I'd like to at least give the minimum amount of agency for players to play how they want, dominant or submissive, however that may be and not force them through only one path. Ambitious as it might sound I'd like players to have some choice in how they handle the story and scenes they'll get.

      I like your thoughts on NPCs, finding scenes like that always felt like something earned out of exploration and talking to people on a game so I plan to explore that, both the idea of the MC getting in trouble for being where she shouldn't, talking to the wrong people or finding and taking someone to an isolated area to "play with".

      I have not explored status ailments so I'll take note of that, thanks for mentioning it and the ideas. Thank you for your thoughts and have a happy new year.

    2. I've noticed in a lot of forums people complain that the ''rape on loss'' mechanic is overused. Yet the only game I've ever found where all or most scenes are acquired by losing is MGQ. Most other RPG games I've played have very little to no ''rape on loss''. Most scenes usually being triggered by talking to an NPC when a certain stat is high or low enough(''corruption'', ''pride'', etc.) Now, I'm not doubting anyone, but how is it that I keep missing these games? Makes me sad, as a lover of that mechanic, that I can't find more games like that. Perhaps they're just not translated. And since I can't read chex mix I don't usually bother downloading untranslated games. What a bummer. I don't know if it's rude of me to ask this on your site, and if so I apologize profusely. But you wouldn't happen to know of any decent games with such mechanics, would you? Again, I'm very sorry if I'm out of line here. Feel free to ignore this part if that is the case.

    3. It's probably because they're in the pile of untranslated games, a lot of games like that are easily found if you look for RPGM games since they use the common assets and almost all of them have a scene of THAT plant monster raping the girl or whatever.

      Have you played the Dieselmine series Violated Hero? That's one of the first groups that started riding on the MGQ bandwagon very quickly, most of them are translated too, high quality art. BF Brave from Potato House has a lot of girls and rape on loss if I remember right, no translation though. Kenja Quest and The Soul of Knights too, one of them should have a translation if I remember correctly. There are more but as you mentioned they're not translated at all and most of these never will, I also can't remember their names and much less their RJ codes for the DL Site.

    4. Yeah, I do occasionally find ones that have ''that one scene'', as in there's at least one or two fights, that end in rape. But that's too small of an amount for me. I don't really label it as a ''rape on loss'' game if it isn't mainly focused on getting raped when you lose. The most I get is games with rape scenes against bosses. But it would be neat to have more games like MGQ where every single enemy can rape you. Or maybe they're already out there, but untranslated. I doubt people would be complaining about the overuse of ''rape on loss'' otherwise.

      Yes, I have played Violated Hero. A bit grindy, but worth it. Shotas violated by hot babes(monster or not) is my second favorite fetish after all. Hot babes being violated by pretty much anything is my first, in case it wasn't apparent. Was that too much information? Ah, it's fine. I think. I mean, I wouldn't be here if I didn't have these kinks, right? XD
      I haven't played those other ones though. I'll be sure to check them out.

      Yeah, you're probably right about them never being translated. Man, that makes me super depressed. I guess I should just get used to there not being enough decent, translated hentai content involving copious amounts of kinks that I enjoy. That's why games like yours are a godsend to me.

      In fact, I was reading my previous comment and I thought of something. I mention there how certain games have stats like ''corruption'', ''pride'' and so on. Perhaps something like that could help. Maybe have like a sub/dom status bar that goes from, like, -100 to 100. Or something like that. Then certain actions in game could raise or lower this bar one way or the other, thus making the PC more submissive or more dominant. I don't know. Just a dumb idea. This would probably take too much time and work to implement. But hey, I figured I might as well share the idea and maybe you'll be able to get a better one. Who knows. I don't know anything about making games. For all I know, this might be hardest thing to implement or it might be the simplest. Either way, hope it helps. Good luck. Well yeah the problem is that your stuck in the english community, and h-game that are english are pretty low quality, because not many people make them, and so the few that do don't do a good job, and that sets the bar really low, and the ones after them only reach that shitty bar, and make pretty crummy games. To be honest the h-game scene in the english speaking communities were pretty good back when flash games were still popular, so you find a decent amount of decent flash h-games in english if you find the right forums.
      Also rpgm was a japanese thing that the us got semi-recently, while Japan has had it for a longer and like ingrained into the culture way depeer than what is seen in the US, like all our talent went in the unreal engine and all the good stuff that came out of that. But yeah, Japan also has a big creative industry of h-games, that set the bar way fucking higher than shitty templates, people were making GAMES. But yeah(I hate my english, stop saying 'but yeah') because of that most of the talent in the english speaking communities end up making indie games cause there is an industry/market for that, and they can make money off of it, so US gets lot of great indie games. While Japan doesn't really have a great industry/market for their indie game, while h-games have a market place to be sold(Just look at dlsite the japanese version, it has four sections, indie games and professional(non-hgames), indie games(hgames), professional games(hgames)) so basically the the h-game market is bigger which means more people can sell their shit and a higher quality of games. Not only that but there are a fuckton more places in the japanese webspaces where you can purchase those h-games!! their h-game output is on par with if not greater than their indie game output! That's unimaginable in the US or english speaking communities, Steam if a fucking monster and basically over 70% of gamers are on it, but they are non h-game only. The market place for h-games in english speaking communities is puny, there's mangagamer, dlsite english(no one goes there its a ghost town), jast, nataku, j-list, and a few other places, of which those few other places are sketchy as fuck and full of malware. basically no makect and no one wants to pay money for them, so shitty standards while all the talents are making indie games in english speaking communities.

    7. Wow. Umm... Okay.
      I'm not stuck in any community. Most of the games I find are Japanese. They're pretty decent games. Wouldn't call them low quality at all. It's the lack of translations that saddens me. The only English RPG game I've played is Noxian Nights, which was pretty good. Other than that there's Aylia's Story, Claire's Quest, Sex Zombie and Deathblight RPG. But none of those are finished yet. They're all in early stages of development. The English H-RPG market is looking pretty good to me. It's on a slow and steady rise and hopefully it will stay that way. Plus, they're all free. Which is good, 'cause I have no money. Now, if you dislike these games, or games of a similar type, then that's too bad. But for me they are a godsend. Because I love RPGs and I love porn. Maybe one day the Western world will be less prudish and we'll be able to get even more porn games. Maybe even get the kind you like. But until then I reserve the right to be sad whenever I can't find a game that caters to my fetishes and when I can't find an English translation patch.

      Seriously? Learn the language? Very helpful. No one tells me to learn the language when I want a non-hentai triple A Japanese game to be localized.     8. You didn't offend me. It just irks me a bit when people tell me I should do something as complicated as learning a language, but they make it seem like it's simple even though it's not. It makes me think they're being condescending even though they're trying to be helpful. Like I said, if you find learning Japanese to be simple then that's great. I am genuinely happy for you. But I, sadly, just can't do it. I lack the time, patience and skill for such a task. I've tried it before. I even checked out the link you gave me, and proceeded to be immediately scared off. I'll probably try again some day. But I always fail. It's just too much for me. It's like deciphering hieroglyphs. It requires way too much prep and prior knowledge. It's not easy like English. English was easy to learn because my native language already has all the same letters. I just had to learn how to pronounce the words and how to spell them. But I already had the tools. I already knew what each letter meant. Japanese is different. Learning to speak it does not mean learning to read it. I'd love nothing more than to learn Japanese. But unless I win the lottery and get enough money to hire a tutor, it just isn't gonna happen any time soon. I'm sorry if I my prior comment sounded a bit too aggressive.       Shame you didn't like Noxian Nights. It's one of my favorite h-games. Although, I will admit, that's mostly because of the h-content and the art. Both are perfect in my opinion, though I would've definitely liked there to be more scenes. But I want that for every game, even if they have hundreds of scenes, like MGQ. So it's not really a valid complaint. I'm always gonna want more. I personally didn't find it to be too much of a slog. Most enemies were actually pretty easy. There was only one optional boss that I was unable to beat. Leveling was pretty fast, money was never an issue. It was pretty solid, if you ask me. But I'm a sucker for RPGs, so I rarely find one that's a slog to get through. I'll tell you what's a slog. Mature Quest. Talk about old-school. Now that's a slog. Gotta spend the first hour grinding on slimes or else everything will murder you. And it doesn't get easier from there. But anyway, back to NN. The Slave ending was alright. Though I wish there was more to it. Same goes for the Minotaur and Dyuu endings. I love all three, but really, all they manage to do is make me wish the creators would make a spin-off series based on those endings. I'd love to go around the world, conquering lands and enslaving women with a tentacle monster. Ah, maybe in another life.

      Yeah, that was only the Prologue of Aylia's Story. The creator then did a translation for Hunter's Quest. That was... an okay game. Could've used more content. And more scenes. But he's back working on AS now. There have been some delays because he's been working on some project at work. But he should hopefully release a part of the game some time soon. If nothing else gets in his way. Fingers crossed.

    9. Claire's Quest and Sex Zombie are both made by Dystopian Project. Both are in early development with little to no art in them. CQ has quite a few scenes but only a couple have art. And Sex Zombie only has placeholder art of Jill Valentine, until the artist finishes working on the new stuff.       No, the Deathblight platformer game was something they were working on but they put it on hold. I don't know if they'll ever finish it, but I know it won't be any time soon. The RPG they're making is in the style of The Moral Sword of Asagi. Deathblight is a hentai webcomic the artist Crescentia works on. May have seen it around if you go on sites like Hentai Foundry or E-Hentai. The game is based on that comic. The first release is already out, but it's for Patrons only.       Yeah, I know. Sadly, pornographic content isn't nearly as advertised as mainstream shit. Nor is it nearly as popular. For as many perverts as there are out there, we are still small in number. Plus, who knows how many are like me. Poor and unable to support the content and creators they love.
      I know translating a game is a difficult and thankless job that a few good people do for free, in their own spare time. I never judge any of them for abandoning a project or abandoning translation altogether. But I still can't bring myself to abandon this pipe dream I have. I don't know how, but I'd like to think that some day we'll get a translation of most Japanese h-games. Or at the very least, a large number of them. I know it's silly of me to hope for that. But dammit I can't help it. A man's got to have a dream. Otherwise he'd go insane.

      I'm always up for talking about porn. It's my favorite subject. It's okay if we have differing opinions. We don't have to agree on everything. For example, I already know from your previous comments that you have gripes with RPGMaker and that you don't like ''rape on loss'. I, on the other hand, am a huge fan of both. And that's fine. We don't have to like the same things. It would be boring if everyone liked everything. All that matters is that we respect each other's opinions and are civil about it.
      Oh and we should probably keep the discussion as short as possible. As much as I would love to talk about porn forever, we wouldn't want to spam the owner's comment section with too many comments that have nothing to do with his game. I think that might be a bit rude. :P

    1. Yeah, I saw this the other day. I was planning to download it eventually. Thanks for the link. Hopefully this one won't be as hard as Sengoku Rance. I suck at that game. I'm fine when a game wants to be a little challenging, but when you make me work that hard for my porn then that's just not OK. Plus, best girl Ranmaru doesn't get any scenes. Wasted so many early game turns trying to pork her and it was all for nothing. *Cries.*
